Cefquinome is a cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. Cefquinome is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as pneumonia, skin infections, and sepsis. Cefquinome has a long half-life (5 to 7 hours) because it is not readily metabolized. The pharmacokinetic profile of cefquinome is characterized by a concentration-time curve with two phases: a rapid distribution phase followed by an elimination phase with a half-life of 5 to 7 hours. The matrix effect on cefquinome concentration has been studied using microdialysis probes in rat brain tissue. This study demonstrated that the matrix effect can be eliminated by adding trifluoroacetic acid or NaCl buffer solution to the injection solution.
