Isojacareubin is a compound that has shown the ability to inhibit the growth of human liver cancer cells in vitro. It inhibits signal pathways such as ERK1/2, Akt, and NF-kB. Isojacareubin also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat infectious diseases such as malaria. This compound is found in Chinese herbs and was isolated from the roots of Jacaranda vernacularis. The effective dose for this compound is unknown, but it appears to have significant cytotoxicity in liver cells. Isojacareubin inhibits the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and IL-8, which are inflammatory cytokines that play a role in cancer progression.
