Vandrikidine is a natural product which has been isolated from the plant Catharanthus roseus. It is an inhibitor of bacterial translation that binds to the ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis. Vandrikidine also affects RNA synthesis through inhibition of RNA polymerase. Vandrikidine has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium, but not against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
