Difloxacin HCl is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used for the treatment of long-term infections. It has been shown to be effective against endoparasites and is used in analytical methods for particle analysis. Difloxacin HCl has also been shown to have cancer chemopreventive properties, as it inhibits nitro mutagenesis in vitro. This drug also shows activity against cancer cells in vivo in mice. Difloxacin HCl binds to microbial DNA by binding to the N7-position of guanine, which prevents DNA synthesis and replication. It has also been shown to have activity against cervical cancer cells and chitosan polymers show good activity against urine samples from animals infected with microbes.
