Product Information
- (S)-(-)-1,1-Bi-2-naphthol dimethyl ether
(S)-2,2'-Dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl is a fluorescent compound that is used in electroluminescent devices. It can be made by reacting sodium carbonate with n-dimethyl formamide at temperatures around 120 °C. The luminescence of (S)-2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl can be quenched by the presence of certain materials such as trifluoride or chlorine. This compound is an enantiomer of 2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl. The red shift in the emission spectrum for (S)-2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl compared to 2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl is due to the difference in the orientation of its two methyl groups.
