11-Hydroxycanthin-6-one is a natural product that belongs to the class of phytochemicals. It has been reported as a secondary metabolite in plants and has been isolated from the roots of "Garcinia mangostana". This substance is used as an analytical standard for HPLC and can be used as reference material for quality control. 11-Hydroxycanthin-6-one has been shown to inhibit LPS induced production of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β and TNFα, by inhibiting NFκB activation in macrophages. It also shows antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
