Description:

4'-Epidaunorubicin hydrochloride is a water-soluble prodrug of the anthracycline drug, 4'-epidaunorubicin. It has been shown to have anti-cancer activity in cell cultures and animal models. It inhibits DNA replication by binding to DNA and preventing the unwinding of the double helix, which prevents replication. 4'-Epidaunorubicin hydrochloride can be used with aminoglycosides to prevent bacterial resistance. This drug also reduces daunorubicin and epirubicin into their active forms, and is structurally similar to these drugs. This similarity may explain why 4'-epidaunorubicin hydrochloride is effective at inhibiting protein synthesis in cells that are resistant to daunorubicin or epirubicin.
