Erythromycin thiocyanate is an experimental drug that has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacterial strains. It is a prodrug of erythromycin and it is used in the treatment of infectious diseases. Erythromycin thiocyanate has been shown to have low solubility in water, which may limit its use as an oral drug. To overcome this limitation, sodium citrate was added to increase the solubility of the drug. This formulation was found to have no significant effects on photosynthetic activity and wastewater treatment when compared with erythromycin alone.
Erythromycin thiocyanate has also been shown to have strong surface-binding properties that are not affected by pH or salt concentration. These properties make it a good candidate for use in environmental applications such as wastewater treatment.
