Flazin is an active analogue of a natural fatty acid, which is an inhibitor of cyclase and an activator of phospholipase A2. Flazin has been shown to be effective in preventing and treating microbial infections by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and macrophage inflammatory protein-1β. Flazin also displays immunomodulatory properties and has been shown to inhibit the growth of murine hepatoma cells. This drug also inhibits intracellular Ca2+ levels in hl-60 cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit enzymatic activity that leads to increased intracellular Ca2+.
