Piscidinol A is a naturally occurring compound found in the Meliaceae family of plants. Piscidinol A has shown inhibitory activity against nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer and other transcription factors, as well as inhibition of DNA replication, protein synthesis, and cell growth in vitro. In vivo studies have shown that piscidinol A inhibits leukocyte infiltration into the site of inflammation and suppresses cytokine production by human immune cells. It has also been shown to significantly increase cytotoxicity in cancer cells. Piscidinol A is being studied for its potential therapeutic effects on HIV/AIDS and cancer.
