Product Information

Name:
Gadolinium(III) acetate hydrate
Synonyms:
  • Gadolinium Triacetate
  • Gadolinium Triacetate Hydrate
  • Gadolinium acetate hydrate
Description:

Gadolinium is a rare earth metal that has been used in vitro for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Gadolinium-based contrast agents are injected into the body to enhance x-ray images of deep tissues. Gadolinium can be bound to other molecules, such as acetate, which enhances its antioxidant function. This gadolinium ion is also used as an optical agent in some lasers and can emit light when exposed to radiation. The luminescent properties of gadolinium are being studied for use in the treatment of cancerous tissues because it can cause cancer cells to become more sensitive to radiation therapy.
