Amoscanate is a glycol ether that has been used as an anthelmintic drug. It is a prodrug that is metabolized to its active form, amocarzine, which inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acids in cells. Amoscanate has shown genotoxic effects and genotoxic activity in animal studies. Amoscanate also interacts with sodium citrate in diagnostic tests for tuberculosis (TB) and may be toxic to the liver. In addition, amocarzine has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells.
