Description:Bisindolylmaleimide IX is a small molecule that inhibits protein kinase C (PKC) and has been shown to be useful in the treatment of bowel disease. Bisindolylmaleimide IX also induces apoptosis by binding to the pro-apoptotic protein Bax, which leads to the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria and activation of caspases. This drug plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. It binds to basic proteins such as albumin and other serum proteins, making it difficult for bisindolylmaleimide IX to enter cells. However, this compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of drug transporters such as P-glycoprotein, which may enhance its penetration into cancer cells.
