Description:

6-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of bisindole alkaloids. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and other microorganisms. 6-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole is active against both planktonic cells and biofilm cells. In addition, it has been shown that this molecule inhibits microbial cell division by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This drug can be used in combination with other antibiotics to treat infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to these drugs. 6-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole is not active against Gram positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae or Lactobacillus acidophilus because it does not penetrate their cell walls easily.
