Description:SR 49059 is a vasopressin antagonist that was developed to treat prostate cancer. SR 49059 binds to the vasopressin receptor and blocks the binding of vasopressin, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and lowering blood pressure. SR 49059 has been shown to be a potent and selective antagonist at the V2 receptor in human prostate cancer cells. The drug also possesses biochemical properties that are similar to oxytocin, which may account for its low potency in humans. SR 49059 has not been studied extensively in women or in humans with congestive heart failure, but it appears to have a positive effect on diastolic pressure.
