The catalytic reaction proceeds by means of a carbonium ion and is stereoselective. The product is obtained with high yields and stereoisomers are formed selectively. Rac-1R,3R-3-phenylcyclobutanol can also be used in the synthesis of imines from amines and ketones. This compound has been shown to have monooxygenase activity towards cinnamyl alcohol or cyclobutanone.
