Voreloxin is a topoisomerase inhibitor that binds to the enzyme's active site, preventing it from breaking and rejoining DNA. Voreloxin has been shown to be minimally toxic in pre-clinical models of acute myeloid leukemia. It inhibits the activity of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methyltransferases, which are enzymes that control DNA methylation and gene expression. Voreloxin is also an effective inhibitor against dna methyltransferase inhibitors, which are drugs used in chemotherapy for cancer treatment. Side-effects of voreloxin are minimal and include myeloid leukemia in animal models. Voreloxin has not been tested against other types of cancers.
