Levofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of fluoroquinolones. It has broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including mycoplasma, chlamydia, and legionella species. Levofloxacin is a prodrug that is metabolized by esterases in the blood to its active form, levofloxacin. Injection solutions containing levofloxacin are used for the treatment of infectious diseases such as pneumonia and skin infections. The safety of this drug has been evaluated in a number of experimental models, including mice and rats. These studies have shown that levofloxacin does not affect cardiac function or cause toxicity at doses up to 2000 mg/kg. Levofloxacin has also been shown to be safe for use in infants with a clinically significant level of benzalkonium chloride (BZK) allergy when given intravenously. Lev
