Lomefloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. Lomefloxacin has been shown to be effective against erythromycin-resistant strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also has potent antibacterial activity against Enterobacter species and Clostridium difficile. Lomefloxacin is used for the treatment of bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is soluble in water and can be injected as an injection solution. The lomefloxacin molecule binds to colloidal gold particles through electrostatic interactions with positively charged carboxylate groups on the drug molecule. The binding affinity between lomeflox
