Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to treat a variety of bacterial and protozoal infections. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to bind with the toll-like receptor and activate the NF-κB pathway. Metronidazole has been shown to have a high affinity for zirconium oxide, which can be used as a catalyst in vitro. This drug binds to DNA through intermolecular hydrogen bonding, forming a bound form. The rate constant of this reaction is influenced by the presence of other ligands. Metronidazole has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen in vitro.
