Norfloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits the activity of bacterial nitrate reductase. Norfloxacin has shown inhibitory properties against tetracycline-resistant bacteria and has been used for the treatment of urinary tract infections. Norfloxacin is also active against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. The rate constant for the inhibition of norfloxacin was determined by an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy assay in which wild-type strains of E. coli were grown in a phosphate buffer solution containing norfloxacin at different concentrations. The matrix effect was studied using a chemiluminescence method in which norfloxacin was added to an E. coli culture containing nitrate and oxygen and it was observed that the presence of nitrate and oxygen decreases the efficacy of norfloxacin. Synchronous fluorescence measurements were used to study biochemical properties, such
