Piperacillin is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of β-lactam antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall. Piperacillin also has a matrix effect on microbial cells, which may be due to its ability to induce autophagy and inhibit protein synthesis. The sample preparation procedure for this product includes a mixture of acetate extract and sodium citrate, followed by filtration through sodium carbonate. This antibiotic can be used in wastewater treatment as it can cause the lysis of bacteria and has been shown to have a matrix effect on microbial cells. Piperacillin can also be used to treat symptoms caused by microbial infection, such as fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or skin infections. It can be used with blood sampling for vitro assays or for human serum samples that are contaminated with bacteria or fungi.
