Description:

Porfiromycin is a cytotoxic compound that inhibits the cell cycle progression by binding to DNA in the nucleus. It forms covalent linkages with nucleic acids and prevents DNA synthesis. Porfiromycin has been shown to be an effective agent against solid tumours in vitro, being more potent than doxorubicin, mitomycin C, and cisplatin. Porfiromycin also shows anti-cancer activity in vivo, but only at very high doses. This drug has been shown to inhibit cell growth in human serum and to have biological properties that are similar to those of other anti-cancer compounds.
