2-Amino-3,5-diiodo-6-methylpyridine is a pyridine derivative with thiols. This compound has been used for the synthesis of 2-amino-3,5-dichloro-6-(methylthio)pyridine (DCP), which has shown to be an efficient and selective inhibitor of the enzyme DNA gyrase. DCP inhibits this enzyme by binding to it, thereby preventing DNA from unwinding. The synthesis of 2-amino-3,5-diiodo-6-(methylthio)pyridine proceeds efficiently in microwave reactors.
