Chloramultilide C is a macrolide that has been shown to have anti-diabetic properties. The structure of chloramultilide C consists of a hydroxy group, a hydroxy group and an additional carboxyl group. It has been found to have anti-obesity effects in mice and may be used as an adjunct treatment for diabetes. Chloramultilide C also has a structural similarity to the natural product chloranthus (a triterpenoid) and can form dimers with itself or other molecules. This property may be exploited for drug design purposes. Chloramultilide C was first isolated from the fungus Cladonia spicata, but is now synthetically produced by chemical synthesis.
