Description:
Streptidine is a cyclitol metabolite, which is structurally similar to inositol. It has been shown to inhibit the hydrolysis of scyllo-inositol by guanidines. Streptidine dihydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of streptidine, and it has been shown that streptidine dihydrochloride inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. This may be due to its ability to bind to bacterial ribosomes and inhibit the activity of ribosomal proteins.
