Fosmidomycin is an antimalarial agent that belongs to the group of fosmidomycins. It is a synthetic molecule that was discovered in a soil sample from the Philippines. Fosmidomycin has been shown to inhibit both DNA and RNA synthesis, which are necessary for cell division. In addition, fosmidomycin has also been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
