Product Information
- Arbelic
Telavancin is a cyclic lipopeptide with a broad spectrum of activity that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-alanyl-D-alanine moiety of peptidoglycan. Telavancin has been shown to be effective in the treatment of gram-positive infections, including vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and Staphylococcus aureus. Telavancin also has been used to treat bone cancer and other infectious diseases. In addition, telavancin has shown bactericidal activity against antibiotic-resistant strains such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Telavancin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and eliminated primarily through renal excretion. The elimination half-life for telavancin is approximately 3 hours, but can be prolonged in patients with impaired renal function.
