It inhibits the receptor activity of IGF-I, which is a protein that stimulates cell growth and proliferation. NVP-AEW541 has also been shown to inhibit cancer cells in vitro by inhibiting the polymerase chain reaction and mitochondrial membrane potential. NVP-AEW541 has not been tested for efficacy in animal models or human subjects, however it has shown promising results in colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines and subcutaneous tumors.
