It binds to the central pore region of the Kv7.2 channel and blocks activation by extracellular potassium ions. This inhibition prevents depolarization of neurons and reduces neuronal excitability, which may be responsible for its analgesic effect. 5-(5-((1S,2R)-2-Isopropylcyclopropyl)-6-methylpyridazin-3-yl)pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione has been shown to reduce pain in animal studies and is being developed as a potential treatment for neuropathic pain.
