Alosetron is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that is used for the treatment and management of severe diarrhoea- predominant irritable bowel syndrome. The regulation of processes connected to IBS such as visceral discomfort, colonic transit, and GI secretions is impacted by the activation of the 5-HT3 receptors and resulting neuronal depolarization. Alosetron manages IBS by inhibiting these receptors.
