3-(2-Benzothiazolyl)coumarin is a fluorogenic probe for the detection of phenols. It is used as an alternative to the more commonly used 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide (MUG). 3-(2-Benzothiazolyl)coumarin has been shown to be useful in detecting hydrolysis of phenolic compounds, such as coumarin derivatives. The fluorescence of 3-(2-benzothiazolyl)coumarin is excited by light at λ=350 nm and emits light at λ=420 nm. The fluorescence emission spectrum can be monitored at λ=420 nm with a fluorometer or spectrophotometer.
