Dibutyldimethoxytin is a phase transition temperature cross-linking agent. It reacts with hydroxy groups to form a stable cross-link. Dibutyldimethoxytin can be used as an activator for the reaction of boron nitride and dibutyltin oxide. It is also useful in the synthesis of polymers, such as polyurethane or polyester, and in the production of paints and varnishes. The chemical reactions that it participates in are transfer reactions, multi-walled carbon, and hydroxyl group reactions. Dibutyldimethoxytin has an optimal reaction temperature of about 140 degrees Celsius. This chemical is sensitive to heat, so it should be handled at low temperatures to prevent thermal decomposition.
