It is a liquid at room temperature and has a boiling point of 110°C. 1-Ethylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid can be used as an inhibitor for tissue plasminogen activator, which is a protease that activates plasminogen to break down fibrin. 1-Ethylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid inhibits the activity of this enzyme, preventing clot lysis and promoting blood coagulation. 1-Ethylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid also has been shown to be cytotoxic to mammalian cells in culture, but not to bacterial cells.
