4-(1,3-Oxazol-5-yl)phenol is an oxadiazole derivative with antibacterial and antifungal activity. It has shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and is used in the treatment of fungal infections. 4-(1,3-Oxazol-5-yl)phenol inhibits bacterial growth by blocking the synthesis of proteins that are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis. It also binds to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. 4-(1,3-Oxazol-5-yl)phenol has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi including Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Cryptococcus neoformans.
