Guan-fu A is a Chinese herb that has been used for the treatment of cardiac diseases in China. It was first identified as an active component from the root of a plant called "Guan-fu" by scientists at Harbin Medical University in 1981. Guan-fu A inhibits angiotensin I-converting enzyme and reduces protein synthesis, thereby improving cardiac function. The concentration-time curve of Guan-fu A was determined using an analytical method based on spectrophotometric measurements of the reaction between Guan-fu A and hydrochloric acid. The effects on human liver were studied by measuring plasma levels in patients with heart disease who received therapeutic doses of Guan-fu A.
