2-(2-Oxocyclohexyl)acetic acid (2OCHAA) is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of ketoesters. It is an initiator for the polymerization of ethylene and ethylene acetal. 2OCHAA is also used in the synthesis of erythrina, myristic, and catalpol. 2OCHAA can be used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis to form peroxide or cyclic intermediates. In this way, it can be used in reactions catalyzed by hydroxide ion, lipase, chloride ion, or deacetalization. 2OCHAA has been shown to react with hydrogen peroxide to produce chlorine gas and water.
