It is used in wastewater treatment to remove carbon disulfide and its condensation products. 3-Allylrhodanine reacts with aldehydes to form ethyl orthoformate and chloride, which are then converted into 2-bromo-3-nitrobenzoic acid. This compound is metabolized by nitroreductase and nitroreductase reductase, which produce hydrogen bond and thermodynamic effects, respectively. 3-Allylrhodanine also has hormone receptor binding activity that may lead to an increase in nitric oxide levels.
