Morinamide hydrochloride is a synthetic antibiotic that has antiparasitic and antiviral properties. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein in microbes and viruses. Morinamide hydrochloride is a white crystalline solid with a molecular weight of 312.3. It is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, ether, benzene, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). This product is used as an antiviral agent in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. Morinamide hydrochloride also has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Morinamide hydrochloride has been shown to have antifungal activities against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger.
