2-Ethylpiperidine is a compound that has been shown to be highly cytotoxic against the diptera, culicidae. It reacts with two molecules of formaldehyde to produce a stable imine. The magnetic resonance spectra of 2-ethylpyridine in hexane solution indicates the presence of an amine and a methylene group. The chemical reaction products are mainly characterized by their nmr spectra. A chromatographic method was used to identify 2-ethylpyridine as the major product in this reaction.
