2,3,8-Tri-o-methylellagic acid is a polymer conjugate that is synthesized by the reaction of nitrobenzene with formaldehyde and hydroquinone. 2,3,8-Tri-o-methylellagic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. It also has been shown to be effective against radiation induced cancers in humans. The synthesis starts with reacting ethyl bromoacetate with sulfamic acid. The resulting ester is then hydrolyzed to produce the desired alcohol which can be converted into the desired nitro compound by nitrating it with HNO3.
2,3,8-Tri-o-methylellagic acid has a molecular weight of 372.264 g/mol and a structural formula of C20H12N2O5S.
