The 1-phenyl-1-heptanone (1PH) is a volatile, colorless organic compound that has been used as an analytical reagent for the detection of nitro compounds. It has also been used in the synthesis of other aromatic compounds. The 1PH is prepared by reacting benzene with phenyllithium and heptanoyl chloride. The solute exhibited a constant pressure kinetic which followed first order kinetics. A molecular modeling study found that the hydrogen bond formed between the phenyl group and nitro group was responsible for the detection sensitivity of this chemical. This chemical is detected using a flow system and chromatographic method.
