Product Information
- Hardwickiic acid
Hardwickic acid is a chemical inhibitor that is structurally related to the glp-1 analogue, trifluoroacetic acid. Hardwicic acid has been shown to bind to the active site of glucan synthase in vitro and in vivo. This binding leads to inhibition of glucan synthesis, which may be useful for treatment of infectious diseases such as hepatitis and diabetes mellitus type II. Hardwickic acid has also been shown to have toxicological properties in animals, including alkanoic acid production, cecal enlargement, increased liver enzymes, and reduced blood sampling. Hardwicic acid binds with high affinity to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and inhibits its activity by preventing electron transfer from G6PD-dependent oxidoreductase reactions. This inhibition prevents oxidation of NADPH2, which is required for the conversion of glucose-6-phosphate into glucose.
