It is also an inhibitor of chalcone synthase and can be used as a lead compound for new drugs against cancer. 4-Acetylphenoxyacetic acid has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in mice, which may be due to its ability to suppress prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).
