Vernolat is a hydroxyl-containing chemical that has been found to have minimal toxicity. Vernolat has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Vernolat inhibits the growth of renal cell cancer cells by reducing the expression of colony-stimulating factor (CSF). Vernolat inhibits the redox potentials in a biological sample and has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reactions in rat liver microsomes. This drug also has potential as an anticancer agent because it is able to bind to DNA, proteins, and RNA. It is believed that vernolat's ability to bind with these molecules may be due to its basic structure, which contains a hydroxyl group.
