Description:²-Glutamic acid is a non-essential amino acid that is synthesized from glutamate and glutamine. It is found in high concentrations in the human brain and plays an important role in energy metabolism, as well as being a precursor for neurotransmitters such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and natriuretic peptides. ²-Glutamic acid has been shown to be involved in the expression of genes encoding enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis, and also participates in the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters such as GABA. This amino acid can be used as a diagnostic agent for detecting antibodies against glutamic acid synthetase, which are found in patients with multiple sclerosis.
