Borrelidin is a natural product that has been found to inhibit angiogenesis and thus, tumor growth. It blocks the synthesis of proteins in skin cells, which is necessary for cell division. Borrelidin also inhibits protein synthesis in mammalian cells by binding to the target enzyme synthetase. Borrelidin has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo, especially where the bacteria are resistant to traditional antibiotics. Borrelidin has also been shown to be effective against autoimmune diseases and resistant mutants of bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
