Description

Bisoprolol is a β1- adrenergic antagonist agent that is used to treat hypertension and prevent myocardial infarction. As adrenergic neurotransmitters activate β1-receptors it causes an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. By reducing contractility and the need for oxygen through competitive inhibition of β1-adrenergic receptors, bisoprolol reduces the cardiac workload.
