Product Information
Picrasin B is a quassinoid that is extracted from the bark of the Picrasma quassioides tree. It has been shown to have anti-malarial activity in humans and has been used as a component of traditional medicines in Africa. Picrasin B can be demethylated by alkaline hydrolysis to neoquassin, which is a potent cytotoxic agent against cancer cells. The structure of picrasin B is similar to that of other quassinoids, such as quassia and rhynchophylline. These compounds are monoterpenes with a skeleton that consists of six carbons, five hydroxyls, and two methyl groups on two adjacent carbons. The active metabolite of picrasin B is neoquassin, which can be obtained through demethylation or chlorination.
