Product Information
- 2,6-Octadienoicacid, 8-hydroxy-2,6-dimethyl-, (E,E)- (8CI)
- Foliamenthic acid
Foliamenthoic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that has been identified as being produced by the plantaginaceae family of plants. It was discovered in the pubescens variety of this group and is believed to be present in other plants. The function of foliamenthoic acid is not yet fully understood, but it is known to have an antiviral effect on hepatitis C virus (HCV). This molecule also inhibits serine protease, which are enzymes that break down proteins, and may have anticancer effects. Foliamehthoic acid's anti-inflammatory properties may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
Foliamenthoic acid has been shown to exhibit bifunctional properties, meaning that it can act as both a carbon source and as a product research inhibitor when mixed with culture media. It has been identified as a mass spectrometric metabolite in humans and other mammals.
